Large format tile is a beautiful choice — and a technically demanding one. The bigger the tile, the more critical it is that your mortar fully supports the whole back face without voids. • Porcelain slabs 24" × 24" and larger
• Heavy natural stone — marble slabs, granite, travertine in large format
• Vertical stone cladding and shower walls with heavy tile
• Any application where full-coverage mortar support is critical

Pro Tip: Full back-buttering is non-negotiable with large format tile. Use a notched trowel on the floor/wall AND butter the back of the tile, then press and slide into final position. You should see mortar squeeze out around all four sides when the tile is set correctly. Any voids under a large tile will crack it eventually.
