Schluter® KERDI-BAND 10" Waterproofing Strip
KERDI-BAND 10" is the heavy-coverage option — 10" wide, same waterproof KERDI construction, for floor-wall transitions, large format assemblies, and anywhere you want the maximum coverage bridging a joint. It's also the format specified for commercial applications where a wider waterproof strip is a requirement.
Same core construction as all KERDI-BAND widths: modified polyethylene (PEVA) with non-woven polypropylene fleece on both sides. Press into thin-set mortar, embed fully, get a waterproof seam. The 10" width gives you well over 2" of overlap per side — more than the minimum, which is appropriate at high-stress transitions.
Where 10" KERDI-BAND belongs
- Floor-to-wall transitions in large format tile showers — the wider strip bridges movement at this critical joint with more confidence
- Any seam over a substrate expansion joint or structural joint where movement is expected
- Commercial applications where specs call for 10" waterproof strip
- Large shower builds (60"×60" and up) where the scale of the project justifies wider coverage
- Steam rooms and continuous-moisture environments (alongside KERDI-DS membrane)
When 5" is fine instead
Standard residential showers — average-sized bathrooms, 48"×48" or 38"×60" shower pans, tile up to 12"×24". The 5" KERDI-BAND handles everything required. The 10" is an upgrade for peace of mind or for applications where movement is a real concern.
Specs
- Width: 10" (254mm)
- Construction: Modified polyethylene (PEVA) core with non-woven polypropylene fleece on both sides
- Available roll lengths: 16'4" (5m) and 32'8" (10m)
- Minimum overlap at seams: 2" per side (this width provides substantial margin beyond minimum)
Pro tips
- The 10" width is bulkier to handle in tight corners. For inside corners, consider using 5" for the tightest seams and 10" on flat floor-wall joints.
- Pre-cut all strips before opening mortar. At 10" wide, these strips need to go into fresh mortar quickly — you don't want to be measuring while the mortar skins over.
- For steam rooms, use 10" KERDI-BAND at all floor-wall transitions regardless of the membrane on the walls — steam puts more pressure on seams than standard shower use.
- A wide-base float or large trowel works better than a margin trowel for embedding 10" strips.
Pairs with: KERDI, KERDI-DS, KERDI-BOARD, DITRA, DITRA-HEAT. Required at all floor-wall transitions and significant seams in waterproofed assemblies.
