This matters because KERDI-BOARD is a waterproof panel system. If you use regular drywall screws, the screw heads punch through the cementitious coating and create water entry points. The KERDI-BOARD washers distribute the clamping force and maintain the waterproof envelope.

Why you can't use regular screws
