Schluter® KERDI-DRAIN ABS HORIZ OUTLET - WITH CORNERS/SEALS
The complete KERDI-DRAIN ABS horizontal outlet package — drain body with 2" horizontal outlet plus pre-formed corner seals for waterproofing the floor-wall transitions. Built for slab-on-grade showers in regions where ABS is the standard drain pipe material.
ABS is the dominant drain pipe in Western Canada, and for good reason — it's lighter than PVC, easier to cut, and handles cold temperatures well. If your rough-in plumbing is ABS (black pipe), this is the drain body to match.
Horizontal outlet — when you need it
The 2" outlet exits the side of the drain body instead of the bottom, connecting to a drain line that runs horizontally through or alongside the slab. This is the configuration for:
- Basement showers on concrete slabs where you can't dig below the slab
- Ground floor renovations where the drain line runs within the slab
- Any situation where vertical drain access isn't available
What's included
- KERDI-DRAIN ABS body with 2" horizontal outlet
- Pre-formed corner seals for all four floor-wall transitions
- Corner seals embed in thin-set at inside corners — they're the same KERDI material and create the watertight connection at the most movement-prone areas of the shower
The KERDI-DRAIN bonding system
The drain body has a large fleece-covered bonding flange. You apply thin-set mortar over this flange and press your KERDI waterproofing membrane onto it — the same bond as everywhere else in your shower assembly. No caulk required at the drain. No compression rings. The waterproof connection at the drain is just as robust as the waterproof connection on every other surface.
ABS vs. PVC — which body to choose
- Look at your existing drain pipe — if it's black, it's ABS. If it's white or grey, it's PVC
- Use matching body material to match your drain line — ABS body connects to ABS pipe with ABS cement
- Don't mix ABS body with PVC pipe (or vice versa) without a transition coupling
Pro tips
- Mark your outlet direction before setting: Once the drain is mortared in place, you can't rotate it. Make sure the outlet is aimed at your drain line before final positioning
- The corner seals simplify waterproofing: Install them press-bonded into mortar at inside corners as part of your KERDI system — eliminates the most common weak point in shower waterproofing installations
- Flood test before tiling: After all waterproofing is applied and cured, dam the shower curb and fill with 2" of water. Let sit 24 hours. If water level drops, find the leak before it's buried under tile
Grate sold separately. All standard KERDI-DRAIN 4" grate kits (Classic, Trendline, Contour, Tile) are compatible with this drain body.
