The most common KERDI-DRAIN configuration for new residential shower builds — a 2" PVC bonding flange with an integrated vertical outlet in a single assembly. This is what you use when you're building a new shower from scratch on a new PVC drain rough-in.

The fleece-covered bonding flange is the core of Schluter's drain waterproofing system. Your KERDI or DITRA membrane overlaps directly onto this flange and bonds into the same thin-set mortar layer. The result: a continuous waterproof plane from the shower walls all the way to the drain body — no gap, no seam, no potential leak point.

Flange Kit vs. separate flange and body

Schluter sells drain bodies and flanges both together (kits) and separately. This is the complete kit — body, flange, and adjustment hardware together. If you're doing a new installation, the kit is what you want. Separate flanges are for replacements or commercial multi-unit projects.

Pro tips

• Dry-fit the drain at the correct height before solvent cementing — once it's glued, you can't adjust the outlet height. Use the height collar to fine-tune later.
• The lateral adjustment ring gives you ~1/2" of play — enough to center the drain in a pre-sloped tray or mortar bed.
• Overlap KERDI membrane onto the fleece bonding flange at minimum 2". This overlap, embedded in mortar, IS the waterproof connection at the drain. Skimp on it and you'll have a leak path.
• Always use PVC solvent cement with PVC pipe — don't cross-cement ABS and PVC. Know what your rough-in pipe is before ordering.
