One of the most popular KERDI-DRAIN configurations for new construction — a PVC drain body with 2" vertical outlet, paired with the Classic 4" stainless steel grate. Everything you need for the drain in a single SKU.

PVC connects to standard 2" PVC drain lines with solvent cement — what most residential shower rough-ins are piped with. The Classic 4" stainless grate is the industry benchmark: clean lines, brushed stainless finish, available in multiple sizes and shapes but almost always stainless in a classic shower. This is the combination that professional tile installers spec by default.

Why KERDI-DRAIN over a standard drain

A standard drain relies on caulk or a compression ring to seal where the drain meets the waterproofing. That's a joint that moves, ages, and eventually fails. The KERDI-DRAIN has a large fleece-covered bonding flange — your KERDI membrane bonds directly into thin-set mortar on that flange, creating the same mechanical bond that holds your tile to the wall. No sealants, no compression joints, no failure points at the most critical part of the entire shower assembly.

What's included

  • KERDI-DRAIN PVC body with 2" vertical outlet
  • Classic 4" brushed stainless steel grate assembly
  • Height adjustment collar for precise positioning to finished tile level

Compatible waterproofing systems

Works with KERDI membrane, KERDI-SHOWER prefab trays, and DITRA on shower floors. The bonding flange system is the same across the entire KERDI-DRAIN family — regardless of body material or outlet configuration.

Who should choose PVC vs. ABS vs. stainless body

  • PVC body: Drain line is PVC — most common in residential new construction in Canada
  • ABS body: Drain line is ABS — more common in older construction and some regional codes
  • Stainless steel body: Commercial applications or where corrosion resistance of the body matters (not just the grate)

Match the drain body material to your drain pipe material — they connect with the same-material solvent cement for a proper joint.

Pro tips

  • Set the drain body BEFORE your mortar bed: Position the drain body at the rough-in, connect to the drain line, and build your mortar bed or set your prefab tray around it — not after
  • Calculate your tile and mortar thickness to set the right height: The grate needs to land flush with finished tile. Add your mortar bed thickness + tile thickness + grout joint and set the drain collar accordingly
  • Order a grate in the finish that matches your other hardware: The Classic comes in brushed stainless — if your shower hardware is chrome, matte black, or another finish, explore the Trendline or Contour grate options for a coordinated look
  • Never grout around the drain grate: Leave a silicone expansion joint between the drain grate frame and surrounding tile — grout at this joint will crack as the drain and tile floor move independently
