Schluter® KERDI-DRAIN PVC HORIZ OUTLET - WITH CORNERS/SEALS
The KERDI-DRAIN PVC horizontal outlet body with pre-formed corner seals included — everything you need for the drain rough-in when you're working on a concrete slab and can't use a vertical drain connection.
Most residential showers drain straight down through a vertical outlet. Horizontal outlets exist for slab-on-grade construction (basement showers, ground floor slabs with no access below), renovations where the vertical drain stack can't be repositioned, and shower conversions where the existing drain line runs horizontally through the slab.
What's included
- KERDI-DRAIN PVC body with 2" horizontal outlet
- Pre-formed KERDI corner seals for floor-wall waterproof transitions
- The corner seals save you from cutting and folding KERDI at inside corners — critical areas where leaks start if the waterproofing isn't perfect
Why the PVC body
PVC connects to standard PVC drain lines with solvent cement — the same connection plumbers have used for decades. The large fleece-covered bonding flange on the drain body bonds directly into thin-set mortar, and your KERDI waterproofing membrane overlaps onto this flange to create the watertight seal. No caulk, no sealants at the tile level — water never has a path to the substrate.
Horizontal vs. vertical outlet — which do you need?
- Vertical outlet: Standard for most showers — drain exits straight down through floor joists or slab to drain stack below
- Horizontal outlet: Required when plumbing must exit the side of the drain body rather than the bottom — slab-on-grade without below-slab access, or when drain line runs parallel to floor instead of below it
Grate sold separately
This is the drain body only. Choose your grate separately: Classic (square or round), Trendline (Floral, Curve, Pure patterns), Contour, or Tile (tileable cover for invisible drain). All 4" grate kits are compatible with this drain body.
Pro tips
- Set the drain body at the right height before mortaring: The drain body needs to be positioned so the top of the grate lands flush with your finished tile surface. Measure your tile thickness plus mortar bed and set accordingly
- The included corner seals make waterproofing easier: Install them with the rest of your KERDI system — press into mortar at all four floor-wall corners before running your KERDI wall membrane down to the floor
- Test before tiling: After waterproofing, flood-test the shower floor for 24 hours before setting any tile. Much easier to find and fix a problem at this stage
