Schluter® KERDI-SHOWER-KIT 48" × 48"
The 48" × 48" is one of the most popular shower footprints in North American residential construction — and for good reason. A 4-foot square gives you enough room to move comfortably without dominating a standard bathroom. This KERDI-SHOWER-KIT makes that layout genuinely easy to build right.
The kit includes the pre-sloped KERDI-SHOWER-T foam tray, KERDI waterproofing membrane for your walls, KERDI-BAND strips for seams and corners, and all required fasteners. Order your KERDI-DRAIN separately in the finish and style you want — Classic stainless, Trendline patterns, or tileable (invisible) options.
Faster than a mortar bed, more reliable than liquid membrane
Traditional shower floors need a custom sloped mortar bed — mixing, floating, waiting days to cure before you can waterproof, then more wait time before tiling. The KERDI-SHOWER tray skips all of that. Set it in thin-set, waterproof with KERDI, tile the same day. Schluter has engineered the slope into the tray itself, so there's no guesswork about whether water will actually reach the drain.
What it pairs with
- Drain body: KERDI-DRAIN 2" ABS or stainless steel (center drain configuration)
- Grate style: Classic 4" brushed stainless, Trendline patterns, or TILE grate (grout your own tile over it for a seamless look)
- Wall panels: KERDI-BOARD panels are lighter than cement board, fully waterproof, and tile immediately
- Shelf: KERDI-BOARD-SN prefab niche installs between studs — no floating required
- Setting materials: Schluter SET (concrete/gypsum substrates) or ALL-SET (wood subfloors)
Pro Tips
- This tray has four planes of slope toward a center drain — which means the corners are the lowest points. Set your tile layout so cuts fall in corners, not field tile
- Schluter requires 95%+ mortar coverage under tile for the warranty — use a larger back-butter notch trowel if you're running large-format tile on this tray
- Keep caulk (not grout) at all changes of plane — floor-to-wall, inside corners. Grout cracks there; caulk doesn't
- Use a 1/4" × 1/4" square-notched trowel to bond the membrane to substrate — then switch to a larger trowel for tiling over it
The 10-year Schluter system warranty covers the complete assembly — tray, membrane, drain, and accessories — as long as installation follows their handbook. That's the kind of warranty you can pass along to a homeowner with confidence.
