Schluter® KERDI-SHOWER Linear Tray — Pre-Sloped Tray for KERDI-LINE Drain
Linear drains and large-format tile belong together. The problem with a traditional center-drain shower floor is the four-way slope — every large tile gets cut at a compound angle, the pattern never aligns the way it did in the showroom rendering, and the installer spends half their time fighting cuts. A linear drain simplifies everything: the floor slopes in one direction, tile runs straight across, and large-format planks (even 24×48") lay down without drama.
The KERDI-SHOWER linear tray is the pre-sloped EPS foam base that makes this possible without a mortar bed. Set it in thin-set, tile it the same day. The KERDI waterproofing is integrated on the surface — no additional membrane layer needed on the floor.
How Linear Drain Trays Work
Unlike point-drain trays (which slope to a central grate), linear trays have a single-plane slope running toward one wall where the KERDI-LINE drain channel installs. The slope is gentle — typically 1/4" per foot — enough for proper drainage without creating a noticeable pitch underfoot.
Available Configurations
- KERDI-SHOWER-LT — Drain positioned in the center of one long edge (standard placement)
- KERDI-SHOWER-LTS — Drain offset toward one corner (for layouts with offset rough-in or specific design requirements)
Available Sizes
- 39" × 39" (100 × 100 cm)
- 48" × 48" (122 × 122 cm)
- 55" × 55" (140 × 140 cm)
- 36" × 55" (91 × 140 cm)
- 36" × 72" (91 × 183 cm)
- 38" × 76" (97 × 193 cm)
Installation Notes
- Bond tray to substrate with Schluter ALL-SET (wood subfloor) or SET (concrete)
- The KERDI-LINE drain channel body installs at the low edge of the tray — size the channel to match the tray's drain wall dimension
- Both LT and LTS trays feature reduced perimeter height for curbless (barrier-free) shower construction
- Apply KERDI-BAND at all floor/wall transitions after tray installation
- Large-format tiles can run continuously from non-drain wall to drain wall with a single cut row at the drain channel
Pro Tips
- Match your KERDI-LINE length to the tray width. If you have a 36" wide tray, your linear drain channel should be sized to fit neatly along that 36" drain edge. Schluter makes KERDI-LINE in lengths from 20" to 72" in 4" increments — you'll find the right size.
- Run a tile layout simulation before setting anything. Measure the tray, measure your tile, and figure out exactly where your cuts will land. With a linear drain, you often get full tiles across the entire floor with just one cut row — map it out and enjoy the payoff.
- The curbless entry works beautifully with these trays. The reduced perimeter height means you can build the shower floor flush with (or very close to) the bathroom floor level. Plan your mortar bed height on the bathroom side to match — it takes some planning but the finished result looks like a high-end hotel.
Who Should Buy This
Anyone doing a modern shower build with large-format tile, anyone building a curbless or accessibility-focused shower, and anyone who wants a cleaner look than a center drain provides. Linear drains are increasingly expected in master bathroom renovations — this tray makes the installation straightforward.
Required accessories: KERDI-LINE channel body + grate kit, KERDI membrane for walls, KERDI-BAND for transitions, Schluter ALL-SET or SET mortar.
