Schluter® KERDI-SHOWER-TRAY Shower Base
Building a shower floor the old way means floating a mortar bed, sloping it toward the drain, waiting for it to cure, waterproofing it, then finally tiling. The KERDI-SHOWER-TRAY cuts all of that out. It's a pre-sloped EPS foam base with integrated KERDI waterproofing — set it in thin-set, and you tile the same day.
Available in multiple sizes and configurations: the standard T series (center drain), TS (off-center, for bathtub replacements), and TT (thin-profile for curbless/zero-threshold showers). All use KERDI-DRAIN for the drain connection.
Key specs:
- Material: Lightweight EPS foam (polystyrene) with integrated KERDI waterproofing
- Pre-sloped — no mortar sloping required
- Can be trimmed with a utility knife for custom sizing
- Multiple sizes available (38"×60", 48"×60", 48"×72", 60"×60", 72"×72" in T series)
- TT series available for curbless/barrier-free shower designs
- Compatible with KERDI-DRAIN point drains
- 10-year limited warranty
The system at a glance: Tray sits in thin-set mortar on the subfloor. KERDI-DRAIN installs through the tray into the drain body below. KERDI waterproofing membrane overlaps onto the drain's bonding flange. Walls waterproofed with KERDI. Tile goes directly over everything.
Pro Tip: The TT (thin-profile) version is specifically designed for curbless showers — the reduced perimeter height means it's far easier to build a flush transition from shower floor to bathroom floor. If you're doing a barrier-free or ADA-accessible shower, start with the TT, not the standard T.
KERDI-SHOWER-TRAY vs. building a mortar bed:
- Mortar bed: ~4-6 hours to float + 24 hours to cure before waterproofing — 2-day process at minimum
- KERDI tray: Set in thin-set mortar → tile same day. One day total.
The tray adds some material cost, but you save a full day of labor and eliminate the variability of hand-floating a mud bed. For most residential projects, it's the smarter call.
Complete your system: You'll need a KERDI-DRAIN (body + grate, sold separately), KERDI membrane for walls, KERDI-BAND for seams and transitions, and Schluter SET or ALL-SET mortar.
