Schluter®-KERDI-LINE - Linear Drain - Channel Body
The KERDI-LINE is Schluter's linear shower drain — a low-profile stainless steel channel that runs across your shower floor so the entire surface slopes in one direction toward a single clean line. That changes everything about how you tile a shower floor.
With a traditional center drain, the floor has to slope four ways simultaneously — which means complex cuts on every large-format tile and visible angle changes across the whole surface. With a linear drain, the slope is one plane in one direction. You can lay 12"×24" or even 24"×48" tile with minimal cuts and a perfectly flat-looking floor. That's the reason most high-end bathroom remodels today specify linear drains.
The KERDI-LINE channel body
This is the structural and waterproofing component of the system — the channel that sits in the floor, connects to your drain outlet, and creates the waterproof junction with the KERDI membrane. An integrated KERDI collar on the bonding flange bonds directly to the waterproofing membrane, sealing the drain-to-floor connection. Grate kits are ordered separately (Solid, Square, Tileable, or Style patterns).
Key specs
- Available lengths: 20" to 72" in 4" increments — nearly custom sizing for any shower width
- Channel material: Formed stainless steel
- Outlet: 2" (50mm) no-hub — center or offset (8" from end, useful for navigating floor joists)
- Bonding flange with integrated KERDI collar — waterproof membrane connection
- Compatible with KERDI-SHOWER-LT and KERDI-SHOWER-LTS prefab sloped trays
- 10-year limited warranty (as part of Schluter Shower System)
Center outlet vs. offset outlet
If your floor joists run parallel to the drain channel, the offset outlet option — 8" from one end of the drain — can save you from having to notch or cut a joist. Check your framing direction before you order. It's easy to plan around; much harder to fix after the drain is set.
What tile sizes work best
Linear drains are specifically designed for large-format tile. 12"×24", 18"×36", and 24"×48" slabs all install beautifully with a single-plane slope. The KERDI-SHOWER-LT tray gives you the pre-sloped base — you don't need to mud a mortar bed. Set the tray in thin-set and tile the same day.
Pro Tip
Measure the drain location from the wall before you order the channel length. The goal is for the channel edge to land 1/2" to 1" from the wall (covered by the KERDI wall tile overlap) — not jammed against it. Schluter has a planning guide on schluter.ca that walks through layout geometry for KERDI-LINE installations. Worth 15 minutes before you finalize dimensions.
