Sapele Tropical Classic is for the person who wants a floor that actually looks like something. The Tropical Classic tone in Ideal Wood's Classic Collection plays up the warm reddish-brown that makes sapele famous — rich, consistent, and full of depth that oak simply can't match.
- African Sapele species — Janka hardness ~1410 lbf, naturally more resistant to surface dents than red oak, with a distinctive interlocked grain that creates a ribbon-stripe figure
- Engineered construction with multi-ply core — radiant heat compatible and can be installed below grade; won't cup or crown in seasonal humidity swings the way solid hardwood does
- Tropical Classic tone — deep reddish-brown with natural variation and the characteristic sapele figure; gets richer with age and UV exposure
Pro Tip: Sapele darkens and becomes richer over time with light exposure — this is a feature, not a bug. If you have area rugs, move them periodically during the first year so the patina develops evenly across the floor.
