Description
Description
The DITRA-HEAT-E-RS1 Smart Thermostat is Schluter's top-tier controller — app control, geofencing, Google Home and Alexa integration. If you're running the RS1 and need to heat more floor than it can drive on its own (its limit is 15 amps), the E-RRS power module extends its capacity.
Same principle as the standard E-RR module, but designed exclusively for the RS1: a low-voltage signal wire connects the RS1 to the E-RRS, and when the RS1 calls for heat, the E-RRS fires its own dedicated cable circuit in sync. One app, one schedule, one geofence trigger — controlling the full heated floor regardless of how many circuits it actually uses.
What makes this different from the E-RR?
The E-RRS uses a different communication protocol than the E-RR. They are not interchangeable. The E-RR works with E-R, E-RT, and E-WiFi thermostats. The E-RRS works only with the E-RS1. Mixing them up means neither will function correctly — check your thermostat model before ordering.
When do you need this?
When your RS1-controlled heated floor area requires more than 15 amps of cable capacity. That typically happens at:
- Large master suites with bathroom + bedroom floor heating on one zone
- Open-plan areas where a single large heated zone exceeds ~150 SF at 120V
- Multi-room installations wired to a central thermostat location
Wiring overview
- E-RRS connects to its own dedicated circuit (sized for the cable load)
- Low-voltage signal wire runs between E-RS1 and E-RRS
- Heating cables connect to the E-RRS output, not the RS1
- Built-in Class A GFCI protects the additional cable circuit
- Mounts in standard single-gang deep electrical box
Pro Tip
If you're building a smart home setup with the RS1, plan all your electrical rough-in before tile. The RS1 + E-RRS combination is most elegant when both are installed in adjacent boxes or a shared enclosure at thermostat height — it looks like a single unit on the wall. Have your electrician pull the E-RRS circuit at the same time as the RS1's dedicated circuit.

How DITRA-HEAT Works in 4 Steps
1. Install the membrane
Bond DITRA-HEAT to your substrate with unmodified thinset. Works over concrete, plywood, or OSB subfloors.
2. Snap in the cable
Run the DITRA-HEAT-E-HK cable between the studs at 3″ spacing. No mesh, no staples, no plywood overlay.
3. Tile right over it
Apply thinset and set tile, stone, or LVT directly on the studs. The membrane stays as your waterproof, uncoupled layer.
4. Set your thermostat
Wire the included floor sensor to any DITRA-HEAT thermostat — basic, touchscreen, or WiFi smart — and you’re heating.
