Description
Description
This is the official repair kit for DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cables — the fix for a cable that's been accidentally nicked, cut, or damaged during installation. If you've severed a heating cable with a trowel or utility knife (it happens more than anyone admits), this kit lets you splice it back together without replacing the entire cable.
Important: this kit is for repairs during installation, BEFORE the cable is covered with mortar and tile. If a cable fails after the floor is tiled, the repair process is significantly more involved (you'll need to locate the break and expose it). This kit provides the splice components — the access is up to you.
What's in the kit
- Heat-shrink splice connectors
- Connection hardware for rejoining the severed conductors
- Step-by-step splice instructions
When you need it
- Cable cut or nicked during installation (trowel, knife, or screw)
- Cable damaged during membrane placement
- Factory splice (cold lead junction) damaged during rough-in
- NOT for: Shortening a cable that's too long — cables CANNOT be cut to length. You must use the correct cable size for your heated area.
Important rules
- Test cable resistance with a multimeter BEFORE AND AFTER the repair — readings should match the factory specs on the cable label
- If resistance readings are significantly off after repair, the splice may not be reliable
- A properly spliced cable should match its original resistance within ±5%
- Document the repair — write the post-repair resistance on the cable box label
- This repair must be performed by a qualified person — incorrect splicing creates fire risk
Prevention tips
- Always test cable continuity at three points: before installation, after routing through membrane, after tiling
- Use caution when spreading mortar over routed cables — flat side of trowel, light pressure
- Mark cable locations on the membrane with tape before mortaring
- Keep a repair kit on-site for every DITRA-HEAT job — they're cheap insurance
Pairs with
- All DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cables (120V and 240V)
- A multimeter (not included — essential for testing)

How DITRA-HEAT Works in 4 Steps
1. Install the membrane
Bond DITRA-HEAT to your substrate with unmodified thinset. Works over concrete, plywood, or OSB subfloors.
2. Snap in the cable
Run the DITRA-HEAT-E-HK cable between the studs at 3″ spacing. No mesh, no staples, no plywood overlay.
3. Tile right over it
Apply thinset and set tile, stone, or LVT directly on the studs. The membrane stays as your waterproof, uncoupled layer.
4. Set your thermostat
Wire the included floor sensor to any DITRA-HEAT thermostat — basic, touchscreen, or WiFi smart — and you’re heating.
