All four Schluter DITRA-HEAT-E thermostats run the exact same heated-floor system. They drive the same DITRA-HEAT-E-HK cable, include the same built-in Class A GFCI, work on 120V and 240V up to 15 amps, and carry the same 3-year warranty. The only thing you are choosing between is the interface and connectivity: a basic display, a programmable touchscreen, WiFi, or full voice control. Here is the fast way to pick the right one.
Quick answer: pick by how much control you want
The kit builder sizes your cable and membrane, then auto-includes the right thermostat for you.

A closer look at each thermostat
DITRA-HEAT-E-R: the basic, budget pick ($199.85)
The DITRA-HEAT-E-R (model DHERT103/BW) is the simplest option. It is non-programmable, so you set a temperature on its backlit display and it holds it. No schedule, no touchscreen, no WiFi. It still includes the built-in Class A GFCI and floor sensor, so it is just as safe as the others. Choose it for spaces where you do not need a schedule: a guest bathroom, a mudroom, an entry, or any budget-conscious install.
DITRA-HEAT-E-RT: programmable touchscreen, best value ($290.68)
The DITRA-HEAT-E-RT (model DHERT102/BW) adds a 7-day programmable touchscreen, plus on-device energy tracking. You can have the floor warm before you step out of bed and idle while you are at work, which is the single biggest comfort and efficiency upgrade you can make. It has no WiFi, so there is no app, but for a main bathroom where you mostly want a reliable daily schedule, this is the sweet spot on price.
DITRA-HEAT-E-WiFi: connected, app control ($363.37)
The DITRA-HEAT-E-WiFi (model DHERT104/BW) is the E-RT plus WiFi. Control and schedule it from the Schluter app, check it while you are away, and view your energy use right on your phone. What it does not have is voice or smart-home integration. If you want to run your floor from your phone but you do not use Alexa or Google Home, this is your model.
DITRA-HEAT-E-RS1: the smart top tier ($370.04)
The DITRA-HEAT-E-RS1 (model DHERT105/BW) does everything the WiFi model does and adds Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice control plus full smart-home ecosystem support. It is only a few dollars more than the E-WiFi, which is why, for most connected homes, it is the one we point people to. Tell your floor to warm up by voice, or fold it into automations with the rest of your house.
Our recommendation
For most homes, the DITRA-HEAT-E-RS1 is the one to get. It is the full-featured top tier, and at $370.04 it costs only a few dollars more than the WiFi-only E-WiFi, so you are not paying much extra for voice control and future-proofing.
On a budget or building out a guest bath? The E-R keeps it simple and cheap. Want a schedule without an app? The E-RT is the best value in the lineup.
Frequently asked questions
Which Schluter DITRA-HEAT thermostat should I buy?
For most homes, the DITRA-HEAT-E-RS1 ($370.04) is the best pick, because it adds voice control and smart-home support for only a few dollars more than the WiFi-only model. Choose the E-R ($199.85) for a budget or simple install, or the E-RT ($290.68) if you want a 7-day schedule but do not need an app.
What is the difference between the E-RT and the E-WiFi?
Both are programmable touchscreens that track energy use. The difference is connectivity: the E-WiFi adds WiFi so you can control and schedule the floor from the Schluter app and check it while away. The E-RT has no WiFi and is controlled only at the wall. The E-WiFi costs about $73 more.
Do I need a WiFi thermostat for my heated floor?
No. A heated floor works perfectly without WiFi. The E-RT gives you a full 7-day schedule with no internet at all. WiFi (E-WiFi or E-RS1) is purely about controlling the floor from your phone, getting energy reports, and, on the E-RS1, voice control. If you set a schedule and leave it, the non-WiFi models are all you need.
Are the four DITRA-HEAT thermostats interchangeable?
Yes. All four drive the same DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cable, work on 120V and 240V up to a 15-amp load, and use the same included floor sensor. You can choose any of them for the same DITRA-HEAT install, so you can decide last. They differ only in interface and connectivity, not in what cable or system they support.
Do they include the floor sensor and GFCI?
Yes. Every DITRA-HEAT-E thermostat includes a floor temperature sensor in the box and has a built-in Class A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). You do not buy those separately. Because the thermostat is the GFCI, it must be on its own dedicated circuit, wired by a licensed electrician per the Canadian Electrical Code.
What is the maximum floor size one thermostat can heat?
Each thermostat handles up to a 15-amp load, which covers most single-room installs, and a 240V circuit covers more area than 120V at the same amperage. Coverage depends on the heating-cable length you run, so for larger areas you split the floor across more than one thermostat or add Schluter's power module. The easiest way to size it is our kit builder.
How long is the warranty?
All four DITRA-HEAT-E thermostats carry a 3-year limited warranty from Schluter.
